Healthcare awards

Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal Health Practitioners are the essential conduit between traditional and western health services. They are critical to closing the health gap by delivering culturally safe, holistic and client focused care in often challenging circumstances and locations. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Practitioner Excellence Awards are an opportunity to showcase outstanding members of these professional groups while recognising and acknowledging the significant contribution they make to their families, communities and the NT healthcare system.

The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA), in 2019, initiated the first Public Health Medal for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have made a significant contribution to the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people via a public health approach. This Award is designed to be the Associations pre-eminent prize in Indigenous health. The Award is open for nomination every year.

The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Public Health Scholarship (SA Branch) will be awarded to an individual who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student, researcher and/or health professional. The award covers registration at either the PHAA Public Health Conference or PHAA Preventive Health Conference

The ACHS Quality Improvement (QI) Awards acknowledge healthcare organisations that achieve excellence and innovation in clinical care, organisation-wide practice, service delivery and performance measurement. The QI Awards provide ACHS program members and ACHS Clinical Indicator members with the opportunity to share patient-focused innovation and communicate their quality improvement achievements.

The Fran Baum Equity Scholarship aims to recognise an individual who has made an important contribution to public and community health and demonstrates the principles of social equity.

The HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery Awards recognise nurses, midwives, nurse educators and researchers as well as personal care workers.

The Kerry Kirke Student Award was established by the Public Health Association of Australia (South Australia Branch) to recognise outstanding scholarship by a South Australian postgraduate student in public health.

The Konrad Jamrozik Student Scholarship Award is open to postgraduate students currently enrolled at a South Australian university, who are a resident of South Australia, a student member of the PHAA (SA) or intend to become a member, are not a previous recipient of a PHAA (SA) scholarship and has no access to financial support through employment or a scholarship to attend the conference. All research of public health relevance will be considered.

The Multicultural Health Communication (MHC) Awards were established in 2003 by NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) and are conducted biennially. The 2021 MHC Awards continue recognising the excellence in multilingual health communication across NSW Health.

National Health Information Awards honors the best digital health resources developed for consumers and health professionals.

NSW Health Excellence In Allied Health Awards acknowledge the passion, dedication and contributions that allied health professionals and their support staff provide in NSW. The Stroke Awards recognise survivors of stroke, carers, family members, volunteers, fundraisers, health professionals and researchers, and provide an opportunity to honour Australia’s unsung heroes of stroke and celebrate their courage, tenacity, service, and creative endeavours. 

The Telstra Best Business Awards are one of the most reputable and respected business awards programs within Australia. The awards were created to give small to medium-sized businesses a platform to celebrate achievements and stories with their peers, and opportunities to learn from Australia's best business minds. The awards categories include: Outstanding Growth, Embracing Innovation, Accelerating Women, Championing Health, Building Communities, Indigenous Excellence and Promoting Sustainability. The award application process involves three phases: a questionnaire (stage 1), video submissions (stage 2) and a written submission (stage 3). The shortlisted businesses will then participate in a Q&A. Stage 1 usually opens in June and closes in July. Stage 2 usually opens and closes in August. Stage 3 usually opens and closes in September.

The Tony McMichael Public Health Ecology and Environment Award is to celebrate a person (not just PHAA member) who has made a significant, discernible contribution in the combined domains of public health and ecology or environmental health, which is consistent with and has contributed to fulfilling the aims of the PHAA and the EESIG.
