How to use your mailing list to drive more sales

A key function of mailing lists is to expand the reach of your business and get your messages out there. Recently, we wrote about how to grow your mailing list but, once you have a few subscribers, how can you activate them?

Here are 3 tips to drive more sales using your mailing list:

  1. Offer incentives

Selling the exclusivity of your newsletter is an easy way to build your mailing list. Once you have the email addresses, how do you encourage the customers to go through with a purchase? Offer incentives! Promoting the exclusivity of the incentive, for example, ‘exclusive to our newsletter subscribers for a limited time only’, creates a sense of urgency among your customers and encourages them to engage further with your business.

Gated incentives with limited time access to discounts or sales promotions, via a code, makes your customer feel valued. It also encourages them to buy to take advantage of the promotion. Offering exclusive content, attached with the possibility of a sale, may also help. For example, if your business is in fashion retail, you can offer a Lookbook to give your customer inspiration on how to pair certain items, increasing the chances of a sale.

  1. Promote a contest

Using digital media to promote a contest is a great way to increase your mailing list and drive more sales. Social media can expand the reach of your business. Encouraging potential customers to enter a contest can boost your mailing list. A contest piques curiosity and may expose interested audiences to an unfamiliar brand. Interested audiences may research your brand and if they like what is on offer, make a purchase.

  1. Include customer reviews

Adding customer reviews and testimonials to emails or with a popular product is a great way to influence sales. With the rise of social media, audiences are increasingly turning to social media influencers, on Instagram for example, to understand the value of brands and products on offer. By sharing what others think of your brand and products or services, you are embracing the influencer culture. Sharing product demonstrations and user testimonials with your mailing list with a ‘sneak peek of a new product’ for example, is a wonderful way to entice your customers to make a purchase after hearing the thoughts of a third party.
