Zeep is an award-winning provider of recruitment services for locum and permanent doctors to regional, rural, remote and very remote hospitals. Since the company was founded in July 2017, it has become one of the five largest suppliers of locum and permanent doctors to Australian hospitals and has placed over 1,500 doctors in regional and remote communities in every state in Australia.

Objectives

Even as a new company Zeep had ambitious growth goals; they knew building credibility in their highly competitive industry quickly was vital to winning new business and attracting the best talent. So, at a little more than a year old, Zeep embarked on a series of meticulously planned growth strategies that would see them expand from a small enterprise into one of the largest suppliers of locum and permanent doctors in Australia.

One of those strategies was an external recognition program that included an intense schedule of entering and winning awards.

For Zeep, the credibility of external recognition is an essential element of tendering for government-based work. More importantly, however, it addresses one of their key challenges; distinguishing themselves from their competition to attract and retain the most talented recruiters and doctors.

Another part of Zeep’s strategy was to extend that external recognition beyond company acclaim. They already had a strong culture of appreciation internally with monthly awards but also wished to offer industry-wide acknowledgement for their high-performing employees by sponsoring and supporting individual award submissions.

Solution

To achieve their external recognition program goals, Zeep partnered with awards specialists Green Door Co who helped Zeep to create and manage a detailed, multi-year timeline of award submissions. Outsourcing something both time intensive and time-sensitive ensured it got done on time, to a schedule. “I could just sort of set and forget”, says Zeep Managing Director Robin Jerome, “and that allowed me time to do what I’m good at.”

Green Door Co also leveraged their industry insight to recommend relevant awards beyond the most commonly known ones that Zeep might otherwise have not been aware of. Enabling Zeep to secure those initial award wins and build momentum early on in their challenging program schedule. “Those suggestions in the early days were vital to getting that traction and the first few awards on the shelf.”

Zeep’s success with their external recognition strategy and focus on winning awards, mirrored the company’s massive growth and meant they started to outpace the credibility of their earlier awards. Once a Small Business Champion Award winner, Zeep’s Managing Director Robin Jerome now sits alongside Australian business notables such as Gina Rinehart and Christine Holgate who were also recognised when Robin won an Executive of the Year award in 2021.

As a result, Zeep has shifted their sights to winning even larger and more prestigious awards. They are now looking beyond domestic recognition to establish international standing through awards for both the business and individual employees.

Zeep’s external recognition program has also found success in attracting talent, which is incredibly challenging in Australia, so even that slight edge of credibility and differentiation makes a difference. Regularly at the interview stage, they find people remarking that one of the reasons they’re interested in them as a potential employer is their award recognition. In fact, one of Zeep’s most successful employees revealed he chose the company because they had been awarded the Employer of Choice for three consecutive years. For Zeep, it’s become something they can point to when a potential employee asks, ‘what’s different about you? Why should I work with you versus somebody else?’
